State of peptides, 2026: define the market before counting it

A first market assessment separates approved medicines, compounding, research sellers and the information economy.

‘Peptides’ is not one commercially or medically uniform market. Approved medicines, patient-specific compounded drugs, investigational compounds, research-use-only sellers and cosmetic products have different customers, evidence and rules.

A defensible industry report starts with those differences—not a giant global revenue number that combines incompatible universes.

Six categories worth keeping separate

  • Approved peptide medicines, including certain diabetes and obesity products.
  • Patient-specific compounding under applicable federal and state conditions.
  • Investigational and wellness compounds with varying levels of evidence.
  • Research-use-only sellers, whose inclusion never implies suitability for human use.
  • Skincare, collagen and adjacent wellness products. NAD+ is a coenzyme, not a peptide.
  • Services and information: telehealth, pharmacies, educators, software, journals and trackers.

The customer is a practice, not just a peptide enthusiast

AmSpa’s 2024 executive recap estimates 10,488 U.S. medical spas in 2023, up from 8,899 in 2022. That is the overall medspa industry—not the number offering peptide services.

Owners need to know what changes menus, suppliers, economics and compliance exposure. RNs need accurate evidence and safety context to discuss with an authorized prescriber or medical director. Consumer explainers should support those conversations, not become personalized treatment instructions.

Counts that remain hypotheses

The proposed universe of 260-plus companies, about 30 trackers and about five education apps has not been verified as a complete census. Directories use different definitions and overlap. Brands, legal entities and pharmacy partners must be distinguished before counting.

The landscape in this version is a dated sample. Public App Store rating counts are evidence of visible engagement, not downloads, retention, revenue or clinical quality. Social follower counts are not authority or influence on practitioners.

The data advantage to build

A reproducible company registry, dated regulatory events, a human-evidence index, consistent app snapshots and an honestly described practice survey could make future annual editions citable. Publish denominators, inclusion rules, observation dates and corrections alongside headline statistics.

A registered clinical trial is not a positive result. A corporate plan is not an available product. An advisory recommendation is not approval. A useful publication preserves those boundaries every day.
